Engaging and Supporting Residents During the Holidays with COVID Precautions
The holiday season is a wonderful time of togetherness and joy. Most communities are filled with diverse residents of many faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Typically, this would be a time for family and friends to gather together for parties, activities, and events. However, due to the global pandemic, things are a little different this year. Families and friends will most likely be staying home as much as possible to avoid spreading the virus. But this doesn’t have to put a damper on holiday festivities. There are still plenty of ways to spread holiday cheer in your HOA community, even from a distance. Here are four of the best ways to safely engage and support residents of your community.
Decorate for the Holidays
Get into the holiday spirit by encouraging homeowners to string up decorative lights and add a holiday wreath to their door. Then, community members can safely drive around the neighborhood or walk from a distance to view the sights. Board members can even hold a decorating contest for the most festive home and safely give prizes to the top three winners.
Host a Virtual Community Holiday Party
Choose a day in the middle of the holiday season on which no real holiday falls and organize a virtual community party for everyone. Promote community members to wear their ugly holiday sweaters, show off their themed decorations at home, and share their unique celebrations with their neighbors. Playing a few Zoom games or holiday-themed bingo will help everyone take a moment to relax and enjoy the season.
Organize a Toy Drive
Many families are struggling due to the economic challenges of 2020. Choose a day where everyone can give back to the community by collecting new toys for children of all ages for organizations such as Toys for Tots. If there are families in need within your neighborhood, encourage them to privately email the board if they need help, and the board can safely arrange for a toy drop-off.
Have a Virtual Cookie Contest
Host a virtual cookie contest where community members can decorate cookies for the event, submit pictures of their creations, and vote on the best ones. Residents can also share the recipe of their favorite holiday cookie so that others can make them in their own homes.
